"W" and "S" points, whats the real deal?
"W" and "S" points, whats the real deal? –
For the V2 installs of the Magic2 V3 chip....what is the real deal with these points?
The pics as seen on Modchip.ca.....do they work? Should I have followed those?
LOD's GAP ROM pics are what I followed to install my chip. I used the "S" point that he shows on the bottom side, along with the "W" point that he has connected to the controller, instead of the solder pad that is near the controller (which is displayed on the modchip.ca site). I went with LOD's install pics because I have the most faith in his. What do these points do anyhow?
I get no picture at power up. Drive acts normally sometimes, is grindy and wont eject other times. Is this a "S" point or "W" point problem? I know people have said this a million times, but I have checked and rechecked 10 times for shorts, with 3 different magnifying glasses AND using a multimeter with needles attached to the probes to make totally sure I could touch the small pins properly. I have no shorted pins, BIOS, Controller chip, or otherwise.
It just pisses me off, there are so many ways to do the same exact job. What is the final judgement on these 010 BIOS do they work, dont they work, what gives? Is there any kind of FINAL TESTED 10 TIMES WORKING install for these?
That sounds like the same problem RichPlaya is having with his magic2 v3 install on his V3 machine... I know you both have different boards but it might be the same thing going wrong... hmm...
S sends the SCEx signal to the PS2 fooling it into thinking there's a vlid disk in place
W informs Magic w what disk type has been detected.
They are not related to the problems you have described. They are associated with:
1 bridged pins on the BIOS
2 nicked or mangled cables on RESET/EJECT or disk drive
The 010 BIOS is, I believe, now declared non-working.
Charlie_PS2 - Do I definately have a 010 BIOS? My BIOS says:
I just assumed it was a "010" BIOS from all the 010s!!! =)
Also, can someone tell me what the "A" pin does? That is the other alternate pin connection I am using that is different betweem LOD's and modchip.ca's.
Not to be ignorant or sound like I cant make a mistake, but please believe me, I dont have any bridged pins. I checked 2 more times over after I wrote that last post, they all check out. It has to be something else.
Today I heard another installer has gotten the 010 bios to work. I think it was PSX-Tech Not sure. I hope this is true for everyone that has these ROMS. I saw pictures but no close up on the ROM to see the number.
Just FYI, my PS2 is officially done for. A resistor pack burned off during the install. I just didnt see it initially because it was under a piece of tape that I was using to protect from exactly that. Piss on it anyhow, Im just going to buy a pre modded console. Will probably sell the broken PS2 and chip, since the laser and ribbon cables and whatnot are still useful.
