Version 15 slim moddable?

Got a slim - 77001 usa.

Some people tell me never mod this thing for problems of it not reading discs or something. Has that changed? What chip should I get?

I was looking at a no solder one that came with a new ps2 slim case that was supposedly made for my version, but on the manufacturer for the chip's site said it was up to a version 14 or less.

The no solder one looked real tempting though overpriced really (over 70 bucks for a modchip)

It should work with a Duo3Ultra.I have put that chip in ps2 v3-v18
or v3-SCPH90000.
