Ver4 Suggestions –
03-15-2004,01:47 PM
Hi, I have a Ver 4 playstation with a Duo chip that I installed myself. It has never been tampered with before. It will boot ps1 (originals), ps1 (backups) ps2 (originals) and DVD movies but it wont read backup DVD-R. I?m using Memorex and Imation disks. I have read that those were the worst disks to use. (I ordered some Riteks), I hope they work.
I wanted to try getting the Memorex and Imation disks to work so tried adjusting the COG and AZIMUTH first (I marked the original settings before I proceeded) found the bests setting for those, (DVD-R still did not work), I set those back to original settings. I then started on the DVD pot settings, I took readings for the DVD pot and what I found strange was that my factory DVD pot was set at 713 ohms and CD pot at 1043 ohms, from what I understand they are really low from what the recommended factory settings should be. Is there something wrong with those numbers or are they perfectly normal. Well anyways I went down to 663 ohms and still could not read the DVD-R, I dared not go any lower, from what I understand 600 ohms would be really pushing it, so I set the pot back to the factory 713 ohms.
I will just have to wait for the Riteks to arrive before I don anything else.
While I?m waiting for the disks, can anyone tell me if there is anything wrong with my install like the W on the solder points or would it be the DVD-R disk? I?m thinking it?s the disks (Since I?m able to boot everything except DVD-R).

Correct, that media is not good on a ps2. Ritek should work just fine.
