    Hi Guys

I've installed the mod on top of the chip between the two sets of BIOS points as shown in the attached pic. I do believe my install is a lot neater though I have also soldered numerous wires to 5V and Ground.

I found games are booting fine as long as it's on specific Verbatim media. Unfortionately games on the NEW Verbatim(blue bottom) or NEW Sony(silvery green bottom) media are not booting at all :/

The major problem for me, is that after a few minutes the screen kinda goes all jerky(horizontal tearing), switches to Black and White, then dies.

This looks like a heat issue(because of the timing I guess), but I have kept the top of the Magic III chip open and it physically touches the metal plate that screws down on top of it. I have placed strips of insulation tape over the solder points to stop any short circuits occuring.

I need informed comments regarding the placement of mod, whether or not I should adjust the CD laser and if I should try alternate points.

Although this is my first M3.1 install, I have succesfully installed a few NEO4's and numerous PS1 chips. I simply lack experience in the finer details of the M3.1

    Thanks

My instinct is to say that you've done a double whammy. The Magic 3.1 is acting as a heat sink for the Signal Processing Unit and both might thus be overheating. In fact they will be overheating.

Do forgive these harsh words but it is kinda silly to mount in this way if only because of the risk of touching the metal plate.

Thanks for you comments Charlie_PS2, I had looked for mounting points and when I found that pic, it looked like the shortest path for all the wires.

The idea is actually for the M3.1 to touch the plate as a heat sink but I rekon you're spot on, the two together are probably generating too much heat.

I'll look around for some more pics of a M3.1 on a ver4 board.

Too bad about the Sony CDR's I have about a hundred sitting here. lol
