ver 4 gap.. repair help

hi , guys...
i just joined theses forums,and have been doing alot of reading
i have a ver 4. that is broke.... my doing..
so my mission is trying to fix it. then move on to my new ver 10

ok installed modchip for the first time magic 3
ps1 backup would play.... but ps2 backup wouldnt
redid it from scratch ... then the opposite...
redid again.... everything worked... except for the eject button

took it apart again...the clip came off the laser.. the one on the side that holds the ribbon down.. and tor the ribbon

order a laser eye... havent yet put it in....

so my question is

Q: is the BA chip gone.... pin 8 and ground are one?
and the other ba chip 6664fm... is the same could i have blown 2?
also i poped a 2 amp fuse on the back (ps14)

anyone willing to help... would be much apreciated...

my guess is a i have a bad ba chip proble 2

what does ba6664fm control?
thats not dvd control is it?

My advice work the other way

What I mean is too much trouble shooting leads into trouble.
It sounds like now you have a good grip on what you are doing and maybe starting on the new board is your best bet.

If you want to trouble shoot this one first please make it less confusing about the current state of the board. Where are you now? Chip in/out? Same problem different one? Did you replace the torn ribbon? maybe you don't need a laser eye anyways.

well i just put a 50k in a ver 9... nad hoad no problems..
that was my second mod ever..i`m pretty good at trouble shooting.. just that ps2 is new to me..and i am here for advice...

my Q: to make things simple woud be....

BA5815fm and BA6664FM.. pin 8 and ground, if they conduct
are they blown?
and if so what would cause that.. broken laser eye board..

if pin 8 on ba5815 is grounded then its toast but u cant do the same test on the ba6664fm
only test i think for 6664 is if the spindle hub moves then the 6664 is good (its a spindle motor driver)
also if the 5815 is bad your eject function will not work and the eject light will not light up

great thanx very much for the quick answer...

now i havent installed the new laser eye yet..
Q: should i just use laser eye board, or use the whole thing
and re mount the eye..

if i have to remount the eye is there any special trick to it?

doesnt sound like u blew the laser
i would just try the old one with the new laser cable and see how it acts
if it doesnt work right take it out and try the new one
at least thats what i would do

hmmm
just checked the coils on the laser
coil1 1ohm coil2 4.9 ohm
i guess the coils are bad
its a 400b

if i am to buy a new 1
would a 400c be better?

'or can i put a resister inline to bring up the ohm on coil 1?
