Ive not personally tested it but been told it's working BUT the best bet would to increase the value until media stops being read and use the value that last worked.

and the correct value should be 10 Ohms heard that from a reliable source

Thanks EnTiTy, thought that may have been the case

    Hi

Has anybody measured the size of the SMD resistor ?? (melf, 1207 etc.)

I'm at work right now, so I can't measure at my own V9. But we have all kinds og SMD resistors here, so I could take some with me home, and test this weekend.

So the SMD housing size would be nice.

Hello. My other nick is Marvicdigital in Spanish forum(EOL).Excusme my english is no good.
I tested with resistor 2.2 ohmios and the PS2 boot all Ok.But the resistor more 3ohmios the boot is not correct ,I not tested with resistor 10 ohmios,I think not working good.
    Please who traslated my investigation?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the info if it's not booting media correclty with 3 ohms it wont with 10 that's for sure so 2.2 ohms it is then i imagined someone had already gone down this path your english is good enough for me to understand ive not translated it i already knew about the resistor's just used your pic for people who want to do it without using full size resistors

Uhm.. yet I remember that I read in some place that someone tried with 10 Ohm and was working correctly...
I will check tonight when I go back home if I find the link.
Time to start to make some experiments

just modified a dead v9 with a 3.3 ohm resistor in the tracking coil circuit and a brand new la chip. and yes it works but i dont know for how long this will last. i'm now measuring 5.1 ohms in the tracking line.

in theory the la will always be safe
the bad news is the laser can still die but like ive always stated lasers are 10 a penny the la chip is not.

every ps2 will be different regaurding the resistor needed the best way to be sure is measure the tracking coil and add the desired resistor to make it up to 5ohms which seem's to be the tolerence the la work's at it also make's sure the correct voltage is sent to the laser from the la to gain focus so it could save the diode aswell hmmmmmmmm this could be an all round fix thinking about it wont know for a while until the laser's and la's stop dropping dead.

The value of the resistors will differ for every lazer because different lazers have different coils. A simple method is to measure the specific coil and add in line the resistor in order to have total resistance of about 6 Ohms which looks perfect. So we shouldn't use a stadar value of resistor but calculate the value for each coil. If the first coil has 1.8 Ohms we put in line about 4 Ohms but the second coil maybe 5 Ohms and if we use 4 Ohms resistor the total is 9 Ohms...must use only 1 Ohm res.
BTW does anyone know where can I buy chip v9-10 lazers?
and does it work to put different version lazer to v9-10 (not that I hope so)
