V9 Problems –
I had a v9 board which was blown. Replaced board and HD7 laser. Now when I switch it on the cd spins very slowly (not normal) for about the first 5 seconds. After that I get the dreaded tick-tick-tick noise from the laser unit. I've tried playing with the white wheels at the back - doesn't make a difference.
What can it be - its a new board and a laser???
I'd take the board back to where you got it from. It sounds as if the LA6805 chip is gone.
Are you sure this was a brand new board, or a second-hand one???
was supposed to be a new one - but then again it could be 2nd hand. the weird thing it though it ejects fine. Whats the sign on a blown la?
V9 machines can use either HD7 or 400c lasers so it could be that the new board you got was designed for a 400c. I'd try one of those first and see if that works.
Mmmm - didnt think of that. Is there a way to tell if the board was made for the 400c or the hd7 - without putting one in to see if it works.
In the meantime I've ripped out and LA and replaced it. Doing the samething. Guess it wasnt the LA
More weird stuff - with my suspect hd7 laser, the cd spins as it should do but then I get the tick tick sound after 2 or 3 secs - the laser moves from the middle to the centre on reset as it should so. I ordered 3 lasers from ******* - replaced the hd7, now for the first 5 secs the cd spins for about 1/8th of a turn per second, then spins normally, but still with the tick tick. I've managed to also try a 400C - same symptoms as the new HD7's!!!
Any ideas on this one - could it be I have 400R's ina HD7 casing?
Update: The console's not modded and the clicking noises occur with a PS1 and a PS2 original.

Another thought - did you unsolder the jumpers before installing? There's 4 little pads underneath that sometimes get linked to prevent damage during shipping, these links need to be removed.
Nope - what jumpers? I didnt see anything thats linked though.
Update: Yip - just checked on the net. The place where you are supposed to unsolder it has already been done.

Some more progress - I've tried my lwhole laser unit on another v9 - works perfectly.
This either means I have another faulty board - or the new board is not meant for a HD7.
Now how can I confirm whether the v9 board is supposed to have a 400C or a HD7? Any components etc I can check?
Did you say you tried a c laser with the new mb as well ?
