    Hi,
I just recieved back a V9 that had been modded with magicV50k for a couple of months, The thing powers up, but only to a black screen, also the laser is clicking mad and not reading the media. I removed the chip and its still the same..

    1. Could it be the LA chip? (I checked the resistance of the laser and both coils are 4.5Ohms)

    2. If the LA chip is gone, is there a way of testing it with a multimeter?

    Thanks guys

If the laser is clicking its dirty or the disc is dirty clean both. Try lubing the cd track too. But black screens are usually caused but bridged bios, check the bios legs with a multimeter.

I'm betting your PS2 died because of the "suicide mechanism" on newer PS2 version. This will happen only if you install a modchip on new PS2 version.

I had the same problem with a v7 and the ps8 fuse was blown, but I could not eject dvd tray. I got mad clicking when I jumped it with 30 ga wire (not enough power) so I jumped with a 24 ga and all is well. To test the la chip first test the fuse with 50 on it right next to the la chip, and then turnt he ps2 board so the chip is to your left and get a multimeter and touch 1 prong to the ground and the other to the 8th leg of the chip (the legs closest to you, 8th leg left to right skipping the big middle leg, so it should be the next leg after the big middle one) and if it beeps (makes continuity) then it is blown, and if the fuse it blown replace both. if it is fine then I would check you dvd legs and bios legs. hope you find the problem.

    Thanks for the advice

I have tried all the fuses (that i can find, cant find fuse PS8) All are ok, and there is no shorts on the bios or CD/DVD pins.

Still getting black screen and mad clicking... im stumped.

Also pin8 isnt shorted to ground, so the LA chip is OK,

    any more ideas?

    Thanks

the ps8 fuse is sitting the left of the fan connector, other than that I am confused, the next thing I would do is to remove the chip and see if the symptoms stay the same or clear up.

No fuses blown, + I removed the Chip, and still the same problems..

Also I found that the Fan cable is damaged and also the controller ribbon is damaged.. It seems that the guy opened it himself before he gave it to me to fix.
