v9 MI firmware problem, illegal disk inserted error
v9 MI firmware problem, illegal disk inserted error –
07-15-2005,01:14 PM
I have a V9 pal console with a MI homebrew bluedot which is blank. All i want to know is how to update the firmware on the chip. I have downloaded the various firmwares burned to disk and got an illegal disk is inserted error. I have recently bought some Taiyo Yuden cd-r's to burn onto. Is there a certain program to use the extract the downloaded files? i used winrar is that right? What software and settings should i be using to burn the firmware to the disk?
thanks

you need to follow the instructions on the MI update page
basically you stick the cd in the drive and then close the disk tray and switch off to standby
then press and hold the reset button until the blue eject light comes on
it will then boot the CD straight up and should go to the page asking you to press start
press start it will take between 20 and 30 seconds to flash and then it will say press any key
reset your console and it will be updated
if it doesnt work I would check your install
regards,
Danny

This may sound stupid but I have seen people do this before. You dont burn the .rar to the disc, you use winrar to extract the bin/cue. You dont burn the bin/cue to the disc, you use something like cdrwin or nero or dvddecrypter to load the bin/cue then the application you have chose to use will read the data in the bin/cue and create your upgrade disc. You will also be burning this on a CD-R not a DVD-R. Good luck!

To upgrade from Homebrew firmware to Infinity firmware, you must get the Infinity firmware which is 1.5 being the latest. After downloaded it unrar it and you'll get bin/cue files. Burn these file using nero, alcohol etc onto a cdr. Put in your burnt cdr into your PS2 drive and put it into STANDBY. Press/hold Reset button until the eject blue button light comes ON. The disc will boot and just follow the screen instructions to upgrade.

extract bin/cue to folder on HDD using winrar
Start Nero
Click on the open icon (2nd from left, at top)
Browse to the folder with the extracted bin/cue files
select the cue file (the bin file will not show up)
click burn (change to a lower speed)
Away you go
Tired, so very tired

I was told to hold x down when trying to flash the chip due to it being a blank homebrew chip? I cant get it to flash when holding reset until blue light comes on, i can only get it to try and boot when i hold x down

The method I've explained is the instruction from MI website http://infinitymod.com/cgi-bin/matri..._instructionhb
I was installing a v5 last week on a friend's PS2 and found out that he got the homebrew firmware into an infinity chip and I used the instructions on the above mentioned link and it flashed to 1.5 firmware with no problem.
