After modding a v9 board, the console gives a sound coming from the laser area that is very similar to a whistle. the disc spins but stops after a a while.
I used Matrix mlx2 chip for modding the console.
Any ideas?

Would this be with all disks or with a backup that has a label on top?
All the tests I did were with backup disks.
Many friends of mine face the same problem.

its the laser unit most likely, I have heard a little sound from the laser when booting games, dont worry about it. Just dont use low quality media such as Princo, use Ritek or Verbatim.
Well I will not disagree with you.
The only thing is that the particular console as well as the rest that my friends modded, are brand new. and the problem appeared on the first boot affter modding them.
As far as the quality of discs is conserned, I used Discs with Ritek surface.

But does the disk have a label on the top?
the premod ps2 i have does it slightly with an unlabelled ritek disc, burned @ 2x, originals will do the same I think, cant remember. Don't worry about it
if it's an air whistle, then a label can cause it.
If it's an electrical whistle then maybe the CLK wire needs relocating or be wrapped with a ground plane.
I have to mention that it seems that the sound is coming out of the laser unit, as I have the console cover removed, as well as the drive cover.
I would say that it seems like a mechanical sound.
The console is connected only to the mains.
No AV cable is connected to it.
The strange part is that the console behaves as it has no problem with the only difference that games do not boot.
