I don't believe the V8 has made it to the US yet because a friend of mine just recently bought a ps2 form best buy and when I opened it to install a magic 3.1 it had a big MX on the chip with another line of numbers that I had never seen on a ps2 BIOS, however the magic worked perfectly once installed so I guess V7 are still selling in stores.

I believe SCPH-39008 is a v8. Right now there is only a jap v8. Also SCPH-39000X where X is S, AQ, etc. are the jap v8 colored PS2s. If on the bios it reads 090 then it is a v8. MX chips where its not 090 is still v7 I believe.
