V7 wont boot DVD-R after dms3 install
I have installed a DMS3 into a PS2 V7 and it will no longer read dvd disks, the laser just makes a clicking sound, however it will read audio cds but skips on parts of the sound tracks. When attempting to read DVD disks the browser screen appears and when selected it says "reading disk" for a few swconds then the message "disk read error" appears.
I have posted on other forums and so far have tried the following but still have had no luck. Checked for solder bridges and dry joints, tried adjusting the angle of the laser using the white toothed wheel, tried cleaning the laser, and now i have resorted to removing the mod chip still with no luck!
When the mod chip was first installed and the ps2 was powered up for the first time it booted 2 backup games with no problems and on the third it just stopped working.
My next attempt at a fix is to adjust the laser pots. I downloaded the guide from this site and measured the resistance of the 2. The cd was about right but the DVD pot turned out to be 1.3K ohms as opposed to the 850 ohms mentioned in the guide. Is 1.3K ohms correrct for the V7 or has something gone wrong. I also read that the value on each pot should not be adjusted more than 10% of its original value so i have not turned the pot further than 1.2K yet?
Could someone please advise me on the correct value for the dvd pot on the v7 and whether i should take it as low as 850 ohms or not?
Thakns for the help in advance,
The same but not the same :)
I just had the same problem, but I've tested pressed copies and they work, DVD9 and originals work, EVERYTHING work but DVD-R (remember that pressed copies work!)
If I turn on the PS2 with eject, the unit keeps doing strange sounds but never shows "Not a PS2 Disc"
If I turn the PS2 normally, if previously inserted, it goes to black screen, stands for a while and then returns to menu browser for a second and then it goes to RSOD.
If I insert the DVD-R from the browser, it recognizes the disc as a PS2 one, but on click it does the same as if previously inserted.
The only thing I have left is updating the chip...
Any other ideas?
