v7 w/ dms3 constant disc read error
v7 w/ dms3 constant disc read error –
The system was working good running ps2 games and backups on dvdr and cdr, in the past month i flashed it with the newest from dms and it started running even better, i never saw a read error or red screen since then. Now, all of a sudden it shows 'disc read error' on *anything* i put in there. The only thing that happened from the day it worked fine to the day it didnt work at all was a pretty strong storm. The ps2 was in stby and plugged through a surge supressor, but i assume it could have been the culprit since it only takes a tiny spike to mess things up.
Any guesses how messed up it is? Should i try to pull the chip off and test a normal ps2 disc, or maybe try replacing the dvd drive? Or maybe the entire thing is forked? Id appreciate any input as id rather not spend hours messing with it to find i have to scrap it anyway. thanks!

Lucky for u i've created a ps2 laser repair guide: http://www.mullets123.freeservers.co...serrepair.html
If this doesn't solve ur problem u could try removing the chip to see if thats the culprit. Also it could be a possibility that ur ba/la (chip that controls the disc drive) was fried.
