v7 problem

Ok, someone dropped a v7 gh-022 ps2 off that they tried to mod with a dms3, after they modded it he said that it would not eject the dvd drive but the standby light came on red and no eject light, and then turned green when he pressed the eject or reset button. So he removed the chip and the wires and the ps2 booted but no eject light again,and it acted funny then he shut it off and then it was back to acting the way it did when the chip was in it.

So now I got it, and I cleaned up the bios legs and all the other points, the 1 fuse I did find that was blown the ps8, so I made a jumper to bypass the fuse (temp fix to doagnose the problem). Now the dvd drive ejects but the drive makes clicking sounds and the ps2 seems to freeze the balls on the browser screen, but if I eject the tray and insert it back in sometimes it will scan the disk making no noises and boots the game and plays fine till I either kill the power or rest or eject. I know it is not the dvd drive because his is stuck to where it only comes out halfway (next project to fix that) so I used mine from a v7 and has about 10 hours of play itme on it. Does anyone know the value of the fuse is ps8 = S2 231 was on the chip. and what could be causing the dvd drive to act like that? Thanks

Its the fuse causing the problem, most probably, check the cd/dvd controller solder points. Its possible that you blew more fuses by removing that fuse and bridging the points, but I doubt it. There used to be a fuse diagram on the ps2newz forum, go to search and try to find it.

ok, I got it fixed, the problem was that I used 30 gauge wire to jump from 1 side to the other and I guess it was not gettign enough power all the time. so I read that when replacing the fuse and using glass fuses that you should use thicker wire, I used 24 ga and all is well, boots perfect everytime. Does anyone know what type of fuse I should get from radio shack for the ps8 it is 1.2 amps
