V7 with new Cd\Dvd Drive wont boot anything
V7 with new Cd\Dvd Drive wont boot anything –
01-27-2003,10:04 AM
I have a V7 machine that had a noisy disc drive, A friend bought a new V7 machine and tried chipping it and ended up with a Black screen. So i removed the disc drive from his machine and swapped it with mine. the next day his machine was Swapped by sony.
I did not test my machine till the next Day and when i did i found the machine will not beet anything at all.
I have tried adjusting both Laser pots up and down in 20 Ohm increasments/decreasments. and this failed to make any difference. i have also adjusted the lezerinth screw to no avail.
Anyone got any ideas how to overcome this problem?
Thanks

how did you adjust the lazer pot? and how do you measure the ohms increase/decrease..

I use a 2MM craft's Screwdriver and always have done when adjusting the pots.
I Use A Draper Multimeter to Measure the Resistance on the 2K Setting.
I have found that with V7 lasers you usually need to increase the voltage and not decrease, however i have gone down to 600 Ohms and gone up to 2.000 Ohms and it does not work at all.
Even though it was working in the other machine.

This suggests a mis-install of the disk drive or the cables.

yes well the drive has been removed several times to adjust the pot and all 4 ribon cables are fitted ok, not unless one is damaged, but i find this unlikely as they have not been yanked or anything.

There has to be an explanation for this and the difference is the re-installation. I'd put money on the problem being somewhere in this area.

what would you look at for the problem?
I know that all the cables are connected ok.
The only Explanation would be a defective cable, But how can i test the 3 Cables that are permanently attatched to the Drive?
I will run a continuity test on the Main Ribbon cable on the bottom to see if this is ok.

Well the cables go into the motherboard; they get caught, nicked. Anything.
