V7 matrix infinity problem. Help!!!
V7 matrix infinity problem. Help!!! –
10-21-2004,01:30 AM
Hi,
I recently installed a matrix infinity modchip in my V7 ps2, however I have come upon a little problem with it playing DVD media...including originals! I have noticed that whenever I put a DVD based game in the system it will always eventually freeze at random periods of time. It did this both with backups and originals. However whenever I put a CD based game in the system it will play fine. I did a little test by letting it run Tekken Tag (PS2 original), Dragonball GT final bout (psx import) and Contra SS (PS2 backup) each for about 4 hours and the system ran without any problems, however as soon as I put a DVD game in such as Street Fighter Collection (ps2 original) or Crash Twinsanity (PS2 original) the system will eventually freeze after some time period; Every time this happens all I can hear is the laser making a constant clicking noise.
Also I had the laser set just perfect so that it loaded originals and backups of both CD and DVD based media very accurately, however recently my ps2 also won't load any DVD+R media. BTW the DVD+R media is made by Sony.
Could these strange signs have anything to do with the DVD controller point I hear about allot on other boards? Also if it matters any, I updated the firmware on the infinity to 1.35, used the alternate "I" point on the back of the board and I used 30 awg wire for all the points except the ground and power which I used 22 awg as recommended.
Some one please help me, I would really like to get my ps2 to play DVD?s fine again.

This could be the laser. The Matrix Infinity should not be causing this because all it does is boot the game then turns off. The laser is reading the disc and when it is reading the disc it hits something it can't read and freeze for a minute. I had the same thing happen to me in Onimusha 3 because I burnt it too fast. I had to wait 5 minutes for it to load to the next area.
This could be because of 1) your laser 2) your media (scratched originals or poor quality dvd). I'm pretty sure if you replace the laser your problem will be fix. You could also try tweaking it.

Thanks for your help. Btw I also took the current laser my V7 has from a V9 because I heard they had better lasers. I didn't think it would make any diffference because it still says khs-400c on the bottom of the laser! Could this also be the problem?
