V7 With Magic 3.1 or is it....booting problems
I been installing for a while now and i'm confident in my installs. But since i got a batch of these Magic 3.1's from www.consolefactory.net which was actually sent from (i know, i know) www.the-console-corner.com. Anyways, i have installed these in a multitude of V7 NTSC machines and they all have the same symptons. They just wont boot any PS2 backups, being CDR or DVDR's. I have thoroughly checked the solder points and installed both in the suggested position and on the end of the board were the board model number is printed.
I have also kept the wires from crossing to a minimum ( although i have been installing these in the same manner and never had a problem).
What i have noticed is that this chip reacts the same to an apple mod when it boots a PS2 backup. The PS2 backups gets as far as the Playstation 2 logo and then goes the the RSOD. BUT the logo is BLACK on WHITE ( White rectangle with Playstation 2 letters in black)? The logo is usually WHITE on a black background.
If the logo was normal then i would guess that i would need to isolate some of the wires better so that there is less cross-talk. never the less i proceed to reinstall the chip while trying to minumize the the cross over of wired, same symptons of booting PS2 backups until the PS2 logo appears and then getting the RSOD. This happens with any PS2 backups, these disc are known to be good cause it works in other machines. Retail discs of PSOne + PS2 games boot fine when booting with the chip off.
I have 5 of these chips and i have tried 2 of them and both act the same when installed in 3 different NTSC V7 machines. I need some help isolating the problem....could it be the chip? clones? clones programed with clone software (apple software)? my install? I'll try to up a pic of my install as soon as i can so anyone who is willing to help can take a peek.
