v7 laser in v5 how to!?

how can i put a v7 laser in a v5.....(R) can't get my hands on a new v5 laser and have some v7 that could do the job....sure it's possible any help will be great... thanks!

Yes as long as they are of the same type, meaning they have to look exactly the same.

C type laser for C type laser
R type laser for R type laser

O.K., this I know something about... there are 2 lazers that come in versions 5-7, the KHS400C (great) or a Sanyo "open face". The KHS says "Sony" on it's plastic cover. Very few version 5's came with KHS lazers, for some reason, and they won't just swap. There is a way to convert the version 5 board (GH015) from Sanyo to KHS with a soldering iron, by moving a component on the mobo from where it is, to an unoccupied spot immediately next to it. sorry, I have neither the link or a pic for you, right now, I'll post it if I find it.

It's really blurry, but it's the best I can do...to the right is the lazer ribbon terminal, notice a number "1" and encircled, with 2 bright "dots".. the other solder points right on the top of it. This board is unchanged in any way, but was rigged with a KHS lazer from the factory, O.K? since the always needed change is TO a KHS from a Sanyo, if you have a Sanyo equipped board, you'll notice that your component is soldered top the points on top, you need to move that sucker to where it appears in my pic...again this pic is of a board that came with a KHS, and that's how it looks, so a Sanyo board with that component on the other points is the obvious visual difference between them, if you have any doubts.

Would it be possible to get the Sanyo laser to work properly in a V4? Right now my old KHS400B died and i had a sanyo laying around so i decided to test it out anyway. Apparently it works in the V4 to a certain extent. it plays DVD movies and original games fine.

It seems like it takes alot longer for the lens to start reading discs, which is probably causing the mod chip to time out before it can inject it's code.

No way. But the KHS400C works great in version 4's, exept it makes them tend to read DVD-RW, and run better. Dont try putting a version 4 lazer KHS400B in a 5-7.... they'll read, but they hang lower, and they hit the mobo when the tray opens.

&btw, you're going to melt the focusing coils in that Sanyo really, really fast running it in the version 4, Sanyo's do that a lot, anyway. If it's constantly re-reading, it'll fry.

oh don't worry i'm not actually running the thing, i only tested it out. Don't actually have any other use for the thing anyway
