I heard somewhere that the DVD and CD pots are reversed on V7 and up. Is this true? Also does increasing the ohms make the laser more powerful or decreasing?

decreasing the resistance allows more power to reach the laser hence making it more powerful - but to much power is not a good thing and could destroy your laser so adjust at your own risk and with care.
hey shadow, sup man? Is there any good tutorial that you know of to adjust the laser (ie: tools you need, exact step by step details)...Thanks,

Thx, but I found out by trial and error that on the V7 the CD and DVD pots are in reversed spots. It seems that my calibration did help my ps2 to get a better boot rate but its still not 100%. I think I'm gonna have to buy one of the newer modchips since the magic 3.1 puts a time limit on how long the ps2 can try to read the disk, and with cheap recordable media most ps2's won't recognize the disk before reaching the browser screen unless the lasers are new, which is the reason I'm thinking of getting a mod that allows booting from the browser menu.
So if i understand laser 400C spots are still at the same place ?
it really does not matter - go by the markings on the orange ribbon cable next to the pots - the DVD pot is always labeled as such.
I have noticed the following varuations in settings:
DVD..........CD
1380........1200
1280........1000
1280........800
values in ohms.
Almost always the DVD pot has a higher resistance setting.
