It could be a bad laser or improperly burned it. You burn the cue at 4 to 8x. Check the Y point too. Dont use the fastest speed on your cd burner burn it on a cd. I hope this helps. Dont burn the bin file you burn the .cue file. I hope this helps.

Does it play original CD games? Burned Audio CDs? Most likely a bad laser, the CD and DVD use two different lasers in PS2, so one can work and the other not if the laser is bad. Do a search on this site on how to check the laser coils, could be the CD one is shorted.

mo its not the laser, ps2 played origina cdr games flawlessly before mod, it is either a bad chip or my soldering... which points would affect cdr playability?

Even though it played original CD (I assume that's what you meant, you can't test CDR until it's modded) it may not be strong enough to play CDR. It's MUCH easier to check the coils on the laser than resolder the chip. Also, if you have another known good V5, V7, V9, V10, you can take the laser out and try it in the this system. If you still can't boot CD-R, you know it's a wiring issue. If you can then boot CDR, it's a laser problem. Very easy to check.

Hey killer... back to Sonic Heroes for a sec. Is it a dvd-based game, or cd-based?
