V7 (GH-22) and NH3 question
This is a mystic story (at least for me) that happened to me today.
Installed a NH3 into a V7 pal console (mb: GH-22 bios 080). It was working fine for some hours when stopped working. (DVD movies + PSX backups/originals worked, PS2 originals worked aswell, but PS2 backups (CD+DVD) didn't) Checked every single wire 10 times, but I found no soldering problems. (re-soldered the wires to the bios, tested clock, C+B points, DVD controller wires and NOTHING, found no problem) Removed the chip, and installed another one. That had been working for about half an hour but then stopped working. Removed it too. Installed a Magic 3, which worked fine. Removed and put back the NH3, but PS2 CD/DVD's did not boot. (PSX backups did) Removed the NH3 once again, and installed yet another one (so that was already the 3rd NH3 installed). Worked fine, booted PS2 CD, DVD-R, PSX. I almost reassembled the PS2 when suddenly that chip also stopped working... I searched the net all over again and again, but found no solution what this problem is. I removed the chip without removing the wires, put in a M3, and changed some wires that needed to be and everything works now.
In the past I found the NH3 much reliable than M3, but I installed them in GH-19 motherboards only. Is there any big difference between the GH-19 and GH-22 mb's ? I am not sure but seems the NH3 chips that I tried to install and later removed all died. (have no GH-19 MB here to test them...) Does the NH3 work in GH-22 mb at all ? I saw that it's mainly for V7 PS2's but GH-19 and GH-22 both are V7, if I am right, aren't they ? I spent some hours with playing this over and still don't know the answer... How one can tell which MB is in a V7 PS2 without opening it ? (the product number should contain some infos about it, but I found no reliable informations about it) Still have some more NH3's here, but I don't wanna waste my time trying them when they are incompatible, if they are at all.
So if anyone installs NH3's and can help, anything that might be helpfull, please share with me.
I read all NH3 threads here and visited many web sites that offer NH3 (and some info on it), read Charlie's Messiah 2 troubleshooting all over, checked the problems that he describes (I know that NH3 isn't a M2, but seems to be similar) and I am about to give that up. I don't think that I did something wrong as I said after changing to M3 (without desoldering the wires) everything worked as it used to...
thanks in advance, Stephen
