V6 CD-R Prob messiah 2
V6 CD-R Prob messiah 2 –
Situation is this...
Former magic II (v5 chip, non-underline) ps2.
New install, Messiah 2 v1.22a
The ps2 modded with magicII was never able to boot cd-r backups and was real screwy with ps2 cd originals. ps1 originals/backups worked fine. ps2 DVD-r's and originals worked fine.
ps2 cd originals would work if booted with the dvd method (after the ps2 having a fit trying to boot it)
Now after installing Messiah 2 the problem persists.
PS2 CD-r's when booted go to black screen BEFORE the "Playstation 2" Logo. PS2 CD originals go to RSOD after attempted boot.
ps2 DVD's and ps1 backups work fine.
The Drive acts in the following way,
seeks disk (assuming looking for TOC)
clicks makes loud "laser" noise
disk spin slows down (motor stops)
drive retrys reading disk
may make loud laser sound again
usually able to read disk after that.
Appears in browser as a PS2 CD disk
boot failure disk spins down
Oviously its not the modchip, but im wondering if anyone has any ideas.
I am unsure if it is a cd/dvd controler problem or a bios issue.
Any help is appreciated
try to clean the laser first .. if no go .. then try to adjust the white cog. ( read charlie_ps2's Faq on dvd/dvd-rissues the understand the laser) ..
My delema with that is that psx backups appear to play fine. No problems whatsoever. It must be a disk authentication problem. (As far as I can see anyways) What role does the cd/dvd controler play in authentication?
PS1 backups load for a different reason from PS2 backups. The PS1 backups use the SCEx signal injection to fool the PS2 into accepting the backup disk, whereas PS2 backups go through the whole boot code workaround thing (keeping it simple).
I assume if you turn Messiah 2 off (hold RESET for 5 seconds) then PS2 originals boot fine.
Do any of the PS2 backups work anywhere else? That is the common thread so let's look at it - they never worked on Magic 2 either.
Yes, if the Messiah II is disabled the originals boot fine.
I was mentioning psx backups because that would discount any laser issues
And yes the ps2 cd backups are known to work in other playstations.
The cd backups range from regular games to ps2 dev like the mediaplayer and pgen.
Rather than do it myself (as you have the problem), have a trawl through this section of the forum and see what v5 or v6 disk reading problems there are.
At the back of my mind is a nag that a few people with V5/v6 have reported similar problems. Maybe then you can collate and compare symptoms and solutions and let us have your conclusions.
Ive found two other situations on the board. One was with a v7... no solution was found but the problem there may be with their burning technique...
The other was with a v5/v6 and no solution was found (still waiting on a return PM)
In moving from the Magic 2 have you correctly relocated the W wire? Is R & W on Messiah properly in place? Is the E wire properly in place?
I've heard this problem aswell from various sources. no idea of a solution though.
The points are all correct as the entire installation has been backed out...
I am positive the points are correct...
This install has been checked over about 6 times... the install was completely stripped and reinstall applied after the 3rd install check
My worry is that this is an odd ps2 that no modchip has been applied to. It may be a very rare bios. Ill check it tomoreow along with W and R and E.
Thanks for your help so far
