v5, won't boot media after removing magic3.1 –

Have a version 5 PS2. Magic 3.1 was installed for 2 years but unit wouldnt boot recently.
After opening the unit it turned out that a wire popped off, resoldered it, unit turned on but wouldnt boot anything. Checked again, another wire was popped off. So at this point everythign was taken out, all wires, magic 3.1 chip. Unit boots, up, video, sound, cd/dvd drive spins but would not recognize any media (originals, dvd movie etc). Cleaned lens to no avail. Checked all fuses, they seem to be ok, there seem to be no solder splashes on the mobo.
Would you say at this point this issue is caused by the LA chip only or might there be anything else?
Any help is appreciated, thanks for your time!
Cheers,
Frank

Have you tried adjusting the wheel/s at the back of the laser?
It could be the laser is gone - does it boot PS1 originals?

No LA in V5 anyway. You should check the laser, solder splashes, bridges, and the BA aswell.

i suggest you open up the cd/dvd drive and watch what the laser is doing when it trys to read a game or movie. Does it just go "click, click, click" or spin up, slow down, spin up,slow down. or does it not at all ?
