Hey all. Got a little bit of a problem. Modded a v5 ps2 for somebody 3-4 monthes ago, came back to me just recently because they were having problems. It was modded with a duo2 se. When i first got it, i had to vacuum the system out thoroughly, as it had large amoutns of dust inside. Anyways so they brought it to me because after playing it for 8-10 hours straight, as it froze in game, and it wouldn't load games nemore. So i turned it on, notice on boot up (without disc in) that the system is making a fuzzy/scratchy noise at the screen w/ browser and system config. So i shut it off, clean all the bios points, and once again vacuum the system from the large dust deposits inside and aroudn the bios points. Turn the system on, worked geat for 45 mins, where it then froze in game, and began doing the same thing as before.

So i took the chip out, cleaned THOROUGHLY all points, and changed the laser with another working laser i had here, and notice that after about 20 mins of socom 2 sitting through it's menu and intro movies, it began to make a scratchy/fuzzy sound through the speakers, i shut it off, turned it on and got black screen. Waited about 5 mins, turned it back on, and it once again worked. Now the BIOS points are perfectly clean, and i put a little extra solder on the pins to attach them to their pads. The chip is currently OUT of the system.

Any ideas as to what the problem might be? Thank you so much for your help!!!

im having same problems with a v4 w/duo2se installed just 30mins ago

all the connections look good and clean

then when i power it up first thing i notice is the browser swirl stopped moving...

i've seen this before and went into the system config and played with the date/time cuz it was frozen... then got the time and date to work again and guess what the browser swirls starting spinning again (anyone know the cause of this?)

so i went on to booting some dvd-rs, no problems, all games work fine, played them for 5mins each game

then later when i was back at the browser, something weird started happening, there was a loud continuous fuzzy scratching noise, sounded as if the browser was going crazy...and the browser would sometimes swirl REALLY REALLY fast (sounds like the same thing the person above is experiencing)

the eject and reset button would SOMETIMES not work, and sometimes there would be no video.....

no idea what the problem could be... all the points lookin good.. i'm all stressed out now, going to work on it in the morning (remove chip and see if same thing occurs)

once again this is a duo2se chip

anyone have any idea? help is greatly appreciated

and one more thing.... the ps2 still boots all the dvd-r games fine..... but i suspect there will be problems down the line, once i play it for more than 5mins.... as of now the problem doesn't seem related to installation cuz it boots games properly...... not sure what is causing the broswer to go nuts

well this is just a theory. If your a modder im sure youve noticed tiny balls of solder on a unmodded ps2 board.. usually these balls are next to smd components. Possible one of these balls came loose and rolled over to the dsp pins. Again just a theory, i would have your installer blow the board with a high pressure air compressor to free any solder specs. And inspect the IC components for solder with a magnifying glass/light.

    nope no solder balls....

now i have another v7 with the same problem!! just finished installing duo2se (another one not the same chip)

i removed the chip entirely from both boards and both still making stratchy noise at the broswer and games FREEZES randomly during gameplay

could it be one of the capacitors at the back?

From 2 different ppl's experiences here, to me it sounds like a DUO2SE problem.Try installing a different modchip to see if the problem is still there.
