v5, magic 3.1 install problems

Ok, this install has me going.....

I put a magic 3.1 chip in a version 5 ps2 and got no boot, just a black screen.

OK, so I totally remove the mod, cleaned up the vias and bios, still I get a black screen.

I check all the fuses and none blown on the MB. I check the fuse on the PS and it's OK.

I check the BIos and the vias and no shorts.

Mind you, this is with no chip. I removed it. No wires, everything looks clean.

What am I missing?

Also the blue light flashes after about 10 seconds when trying to boot.

Red reset turns the unit on and disk ejects on command fine.

You can hear the disk searching during the boot process.

Again, no video or sound, no Sony splash screen, nothing.

umm check the ribons and tracks. also check the v5 point

it's the cable attach to the eject/reset

checked it. I even swapped it with another ps2.

No joy.
