v5 Disc spins, doesn't boot anything

Hello. This just happened to my son's v5. It has had a magic 3 in it for a couple of years, so if this unit is dead, it has earned its rest haha.

Anyway, it just happened. Insert the disc, everything spins up but just sits there. It never boots. I removed the chip and same result. It doesn't go to the RSOD or anything, it just sits there spinning like there is no disc in the drive.

Any ideas as to what is wrong? I tried a new laser and had the same result so thats not it.

seems like you may need a laser or may even gt away with cleaning the laser?!?!

Should of left the chip in to save you messing around with it.

Does it recognise the discs in the browser menu?!?!

No, we are beyond the laser. I figured the same thing. I cleaned it and nothing, installed a new laser and nothing. It won't even boot a PS1 original game. I dont know if its a focus thing or what.

i've had this happen with magic 3 chips. ba could have been worn out. replacing it will fix it sometimes

How can the BA wear out? I used the method of testing pin 8 and ground and didn't get any short but other than that, I don't have any idea how to test the chip. No fuses are blown. Maybe I will find a new BA chip and replace it and see what happens I guess. Its better than forking out another $175 for a new unit. Unless someone wants to buy this one.
