V4 that will not play DVD-R
V4 that will not play DVD-R –
I know these questions have been asked before but here we go... oh, and I did search. Any ideas would be appreciated.
I have a 35001 V4 that came with the GT3 package. We installed a Magic 3.1. I can play all originals and all PS and PS2 cd-rs but NO dvd-rs.
I am using Pioneer 106 w/ latest firmware, Verbatim data-life plus, RecordNow Max at slowest burn speed.
We opened her back up to change the W point to W1. 2 wires were found to be loose. The joints were repaired and the W was moved. All solder connections were checked under a microscope and verified with a Fluke meter. All connectors were tight and no cables kinked, everything looks good. Still have the same problem, everything plays but DVD-Rs. I guess next will be to check the laser calibration. I know that it being an older unit some say the laser might be week but this one was barely used.
If the problem was the loose connections, does the W1 need to be moved back to W? Can you think of any other points to check? What would be the next direction to go other than new chip or PS2? Thanks again!
If you know the questions have been asked before, then you haven't realkly bothered with your search! Oh well, here we go with the answer.
You would not have played DVD-Rs before. so either the laser is on its way out and can't cope with the lower reflectivity or there is a wiring problem, particluarly W.
If you could make a DVD-R movie with DVDecryptor >> DVD2One >> RecordNowMax and see if that plays, it would verify the laser.
I will try that.
Maybe my search parameters were too specific but I did try. Thanks
No worries - a little dig doesn't hurt.
Charlie, I took you advice and burned a movie and it DOES work. So I guess I need to take it apart again and check the wiring. (Part of original question->)I changed from W to W1 but found 2 wires that needed repair, should I change back from W1 to W or should either of these points be good? Thanks again for your help.
OK again, here is what I got. I'm sure this has been posted some where but I have not read it yet.
The only way to boot DVDR games on my console:
turn off PS2,
reset PS2 & let it go to RSOD,
eject game & let it go back to menu,
hit triangle for version,
change diagnosis to on & back out to main menu,
re-insert game & watch it boot.
Quick update: I tried this boot w/ a DVD+R that someone had given me and it works also.
Games I have tried and work every time w/ this method:
Enter the Matrix
Pro Skate 4
Pro Skater 4 DVD+R

have you try to power up with eject button then insert game in? my is easy to boot that way
That is strange to have to recalibrate the laser (with DIAGNOSIS ON) if the DVD-R media is the same for both DVD movie and game and the burner is the same.
I'm stumped. Could be the chip.
