v4 ps2 magic 3.1 help please (new thread) –
first off I created a new thread because I have a better understanding of what may be wrong now and this one should make more sense. my apologies for wasting forum real estate!
got my magic 3.1 in my no gap v4 and I think the problem is when the mod chip is turned on it somehow disables the dvd controller ic. the reason I think this is if the chip is on it will not boot ANY kind of dvd media (movies, original games, copied games, copied movies....nothin) but it will boot original AND copied cd based games (ps1 and ps2). now if the chip is off then I am able to boot copied movies and original dvd based games (or anything a non modded ps2 should boot) no problem whatsoever.
now if only I could figure out which wire could be disabling the dvd controller chip
If anyone could shed some light on this one for me I would be very grateful and I hope this question is a little clearer than my last post!
Check the cd/dvd controller points which are B,I,G,H,A, etc.
Thanks I will check those tonight. also I read on psxforum.com a guy had the EXACT same prob as me and his fix was the b and c wires switched. I will post my results after I test all of this later.
went through all the points as mentioned and still nothing. the only thing I found that kind of worked was a recommendation from magic's official site showing an alternate spot for the w wire if the ps2 wont boot dvd disks. I tried that and success! but only 1 time grrr I booted ff12 1 time only and it has failed to boot any other dvd media since.
also my wires are all very short (ground wire is about 3/4") and I am using heavy gauge wire for 5v and ground. I am using a diff spot for ground though than the diagrams suggest I am actually using the large copper ground trace that surrounds the board as I have my chip mounted very close to it. if this is an issue please let me know.
I am experimenting with diff media and burning techniques now....
edit... oh and I also adjusted the impedance of the cd and dvd coils on the laser pickup to about 10% lower values of the original (400c laser) I also have a spare 400b laser that also works just fine
