V4 PS2 and DUO Chip –
I have a V4 PS2 and a DUO Chip. After first installing the chip, I was not able to play PS2 games, whether original or copy, but all PS1 games worked.
I noticed that DVD's were also taking significantly longer to boot up. The browser would load up for about 10 seconds or so before the red screen would pop up asking for a PS or PS2 Disc.
I went back in and redid every single point over, checking with a multimeter and magnifying glass for bridges. I also shortened and trimmed all wires so there was no slack at all and put a bigger ground wire on.
After doing that, I am now able to boot PS2 CD Games 100% of the time. I can not boot PS2 DVD games, original or copied, while the Duo chip is on. When the chip is off, originals boot fine and play fine, but they still take about 10-20 seconds in the browser before they authenticate which may be why the modchip isn't working right with DVDs /shrug
I don't think it's my laser because I can play DVD movies (original and copied) fine when the chip is off. My original games also play fine when the chip is off. No video or audio skipping in FMV, fast loading still between levels, etc.
If anyone can help, please do! Thanks in advance.
Had this same problem on the exact same PS2 version just a few days ago. Copied and original cd games worked perfect, but no luck with the dvds.
Then I did this:
And now it works like a dream. Let me know how this works for you, I'm interested to know if it fixes your problem too.
Actually if your original DVD games still take 10-20 seconds to boot when the chip is disabled then your laser is probably not working so good!
Check out the last page of the installation pictures thread in general discussions. I have posted pictures of the V4 with a DUO installed - make sure you have done something similar to that and you should be ok as long as your laser is fine.
If it is not then follow the link provided above or this one:
Thanks for the help guys. I used a cotton swab and some rubbing alcohol and cleaned off the laser lens. Works like brand new now!
And yes, the mod works fine! Damn should've tried this first instead of resoldering 20x.
