V4 No solder problem
I have a V4 NTSC with a no solder chip. It has been working fine for about 4 months with no problems. Now during the swap with Devil May Cry while I am waiting the 15 seconds to do my back up swap sometimes DMC keeps spinning and the backup won't boot sometimes it will. I had my PS2 sitting flat so I stood it upright and it booted fine. Does this sound like something came loose or is my PS2 going bad? Please help!!
it depends upon the spinning you're experiencing...
if the disc spins with lots of laser seeking track noise when the ps2 i stting flat prolly the laser got worn or it needs recalibration.
usually having the ps2 in the vertical position can cure the problem but again it should be a matter of time to see if it lasts long enough...
I had to give up on a v5 laser adjust (even with oscilloscope) since the dvd boot was going bad even with original games.
It was a real shame, i was lucky anyway since $ony center is near my town so i can have them to replace the laser.
WHY $ony, our "mom", do you use such a cheapo laser pickup?!?!?!? didn't all the thousands of unhappy customers of ps1 make you change your mind?!?!
All my originals boot fine upright or flat. The noises you hear during a normal no solder boot method while waiting the 15 sec is what I hear after 15 seconds as well. Normaly you will hear DMC spin and then a stopping noise about 9 seconds after swap. I still hear the stopping sound at 9 seconds, then I can hear it spin for a second or two then the stopping noise again. If I try booting anyway it will freeze at the "updateing codes" screen. When I stood it upright, it will boot backups fine.
So is this a laser calibration issue or do I need to replace the laser? Could my chip just have come loose? Is laser calibration easy to do? Thanks in advance!!
Has anyone else had or heard of this problem? Is standing the PS2 upright just a temporary fix? Please advise.
i was having funny probs with mine, i could boot everything but dvdr
so i cleaned the lense and its all working fine now. it would make a noise too it didnt come out spinnin though mine is always stopped i use v4 no solder resoldered with gameshark2
Mine doesn't come out spinning either. It just makes the same noises as when you first put in DMC and wait 15 seconds before turning off/on codes. The funny thing is it worked fine for a month or two. Why does it work better when PS2 is upright?
I have taken apart the PS2 and re-seated the chip. Worked fine while laying flat for a little while then right back to the same problem. Surely mre people have experienced this. Anyone???
