v4 magic 3.1 help please!
v4 magic 3.1 help please! –
11-05-2006,06:38 PM
I just installed my magic 3.1 (red says dvd9 on ic) into my v4 no gap ps2 and the only way I can get it to boot anything is by turning the ps2 on with the modchip off (held reset for 5 seconds) all other boot attempts fail with backups or originals. this ps2 will play a copied dvd movie just fine on dvd-r and +r disks. if the mod is on and I try to boot an original disk it goes past the bios where it seems like it will load but then "unable to read disk pops up"
I am an experienced xbox modder and I have tried and failed 3 times now on my ps2. I have never modded a ps2 before this.
I am almost 100% certain that I have no bridges and all connections 100% perfect checked with a magnifying glass and a multimeter to be sure because I didnt want to fry my bios chip or something horrible!
just noticed also that if I boot with a copied disk in by double tapping reset then the game seems to go past the bios but unable to read disk pops up again.
if this is a laser issue can anyone point me to a laser adjusting guide that shows the multimeter readings I should try to replicate? thanks in advance

also if the mod is on I can go into the browser and it will recognize a copied game as a ps2 disk (when mod is off I get disk read error at the browser screen with a copied game)

Why don't you try installing a Duo 3 or pay a little more for Crystal Chip 1.2? Much less wires and more reliability. Magic 3.1 is pretty difficult to install since it requires a lot of wires. Because we cannot diagnosis the problem exactly right now. I would recommend you check each wire again and make sure every wire is suppose to be soldered where it's suppose to be. Good luck with the install.

I didnt buy the more expensive chips because I felt the features that came with them was pretty much useless to me but I see now how much a pain in the ass the magic is to install. oh well I already have this one so I might as well get it to work so does anyone have any info on what wire does what exactly? this may help me narrow down the problem a little. I did many searches on the same thing but all I find is threads that seem to end like this one almost did (basicly just check the wiring)

look if this is one of those things where people are just sick of answering magic 3.1 questions or someone thinks I didn't search enough then fine ill look elsewhere for the fix. but can someone at least please give me a heads up as to where that "elsewhere" may be?

its been a week now and I still have the same problem. Tried removing chip, cleaned all solder spots, reapplied minute amounts of flux and reinstalled and nothing changed. also I reconfirmed all solder locations with the various pics of a successful install.
does anyone know where to get a description of what each wire does so that maybe I have a chance of figuring this out?
