V3 PS2 with Messiah 1 original online

I've searched and searched the forums for an answer or a diagram on a switch solution to get a V3 with a Messiah1 online.
found many things for magic's, but not for messiah..


I've tried a simple switch to switch off the power to the chip.. : no-go, black screen
I've tried a 3 legged switch that cut power to the chip and connected the chip to ground: no go, black screen.

So my question, as has been asked many times before( I realise that) , but for other chips is: how do I get this to work.

Do I have to cut a track on the pcb and put a switch on that, put a resistor inbetween somewhere, is there a way to make this V3 function without power to the Messiah...

I hope there's someone that can answer this, so I can get this sucker working online for a friend of mine.

Plz don't mistake this question as another "try to get online with backup games" thing ;) cause that ain't happenin soon :P

Ive thought about the switch thing for a while now. But for one, I dont play online and if I did, I think I would just rather buy another PS2, mod it, and put the older one back to stock.

But I know there's people that cant just go buy another PS2, so lets find a solution here.

Now, you need to cut the total power off to the switch. You need the shortest amount of wire possible used for the power and ground. So I suggest mounting the switch close to the chip pokeing out somewhere in the HDD bay. THis way you can just reach in there and turn it off.

I dont know where you have placed your chip, or how the V3 is mapped out, but im sure this is possible with v4+.

Just find the smallest switch you can that can handle 3.5v (or is it 3.3?) and doent loose a lot of curent throughout. I dont see why that wouldent work out.

the unit was modded by someone else for this friend of mine.. not the most perfect job.,. but it works nonetheless..

I've tried the switch method.. one method where only power was cut to the chip, and the other method where power was cut and the powerpoint of the chip was connected to the ground (saw that in some posts about the magic2 and thought "what the hey.. try it")

But in both cases the machine just gave me a black silent screen..
so the simple power cut switch method does not seem to work here :|

Could be there's still leaking power into it for one reason or the other and that it's still partially trying to do it's job..

the question now is.. how do I get the chip shutfown entirely..
I thougt that al complete lack of power would kinda do the trick like it does with other chips, but it clearly doesn't..

The problem could be that when the switch is on, the messiah cant operate with that much length of wire. The rule of thumb is to keep the power and ground wires as short as possible and a thicker guage than the rest.

What switch and what guage wire are you using?

well.. It isn't a wire length/gauge issue. I know and apply these rules very well.

Messiah original was not that picky about wires.. I used 22awg or equivalent for power and ground.. the original wires were thinner gauge.. and that allready functioned perfectly. I kept them as short as was possible when installing a switch..

I install DMS3's on all supported PS2 types, even the older ones, so I know a thing or two about it ;)
Mechanics I'm good at.. It's just the specific points and deeper technical stuff that's not entirely within my knowledge.

I have some of those switches, so I'm gonna give that a go sometime this weekend..


But when you say "not a good thing" with grounding
How "not good " is that..

Is it "it'll kill components/laser/stuff immediately" not good ?

Cause I have tried the powercut switchthing.. and accidentally switched it when it was playing.. (the switch broke loose out of it's tape fixing, hit a glass next to it and switched...it froze right away, sound gone everything)
Now it seems it does only CD based games.. (it's now in it's "original" state, without a switch)
Don't know yet if that has to do with my switch or maybe some damaged connections, or with something that blew when the switch went..

I hope it's not something that blew, for then I can just stop right now with the switch...
