    Hello, I just got my PS2 V3 modded with DMS3 V2.0

Strangely, when I power up the unit, it shows a black screen.
Only if I press the power button for 3 seconds, the PS2 boot animation apears (the blue cubes).

Besides that, normal operation of the drive is not possible anymore, as I cannot eject a disc without the console restarting. It seems, as Eject and Power do the same job.

    Can anyone help me out?

check the BA58 and BA66 chip, check all dvd/cd controller connections and look for any bridges. make sure that wires D and E are twisted/wrapped as well.

OK, THX, will do that. Besides the drive is making "new" sounds.
Before the install, the drive made seeking sounds, now I can hear the focusing of the laser.

Remember, V1-V4 has a bad laser. No matter what mochip you put in there, the chance is you won't be able to play backup unless you use Ritek disc or some of recommend brands. I have seen people got the expensive chip but at the end it's all the same. It won't read all general disc(cheap disc). If you replace with new laser 400 C, you won't hear the noise at all. I have done many before so I know. V5-V10 are all new laser. The DMS is good for bios upgrade but the future of the long run won't do anything much when the PS3 comes out, you may want to spend on the new machine rather then keep the old one. I refer magic 3.1, it 's cheap and works as other chips do.

By the way, if you can afford the new lasr 400 C, you're gonna happy with it because it will read everything.

The PS2 shouldn't make such sounds, as it was not used for half a year and seldom played.

I am unfortunately using various cheap brands like Princo, Storquest.

Where can I buy a nwe 400C laser that will fit the V3?

Old laser does make noise. 400 C sells on Ebay and other website for modchip.

Ritek 2x G03 is kinda cheap now. All my backups are using Ritek, easy to detect.

So 400C will fit V3? Because I always read that 400C is for V7, whereas 400B is for V3-V5.

I saw the laser unit on http://www.xinga.com/ , a Chinese company from Guangdong province.

Some of their lasers are used, some new. I have fear of buying a used or refurbished laser unit.

Dan...they have a lot of cheap stuffs.

I believe the original laser is 400B, the 400C is new and fit in V1-V7 or V8 something. But 400B won't fit in V5-V10. I recommend to buy a new one. Use one may not work for back up but will work with original discs.
