Whee how fun it is to solder to IC chips. The thing didn't work so I went and removed all the solder and wires. Huzzah the thing boots and loads from memory card. But what's this? The tray won't go back in! Please for the love of god someone tell me this is a simple component swap.
Also if anyone can sell me a controller ribbon for a v4 ps2, you will be my god for a week or 2.

Are you sure all the cables are plugged in ?

Completely. I was going to check for anything under the Z point as other threads have suggested but the damn v2 is foreign to me as I'm used to v3/4s. Your sig, $40 CAD? I should've gone and let someone else do it. My soldering is good enough to fix a TV and mod an XBox but nowhere near good enough to do a ps2 apparently.

Thats odd I never had that problem before.. Check if you have damaged any cables etc. Also yes it is $40 to install your modchip.

One thread suggested that a large brown thing (SMD?) near the BA chip on a v3 could be blown, course I haven't a clue right this second what a BA chip is and I most definately didn't see any large brown things on the DVD board. Another suggested a set of resistors on the underside of the Z point were at fault, potentially being blown. Literally everything works but closing the tray. I'd be more than happy to pay for your services to install this duo3 but I'd rather not burn good money if it will just be installed into a machine that won't be able to take advantage of it's new found functionality.

Did you completely remove the modchip ? Inspect the board for solder bridges.

Yes, theres nothing left of it there aside from a few signs that there was solder in a few places. I went over everything with solder braid and nadda. The Z point is my suspect but it looks fine. I'll hit it with a razor in the morning and see if continuity exists.

I'm convinced it's Z point problems. V3 Tray open but wont close...help !
The diagrams all show the same 8 pointed somethingorother. I've got no idea what the part actually is but they all say to replace it with a 10k ohm resistor. Is there any way to test the part to see if it still works?

The install guide I was using for an example of what I'm talking about.

This seems to have a fix but the resistor block is so close to the IC that the trace isn't even 1/4" long. Joyous times are at hand!
If the thing is actually a resistor block my multimeter reads nothing but continuity produces .700 on the first set of pins and 1.2 on the rest. Never have been able to actually use it for anything but voltages and continuity for some reason.
