Hi everyone, I actually picked up my PS2 today :D:D:D
Anyhow, it's an older one, one of the first ones that came out. It's a SCPH 30001 Version 2.
I have to still take it apart, b/c it's got an older chip which requires a gameshark or something to run it which I don't have/want.
I was thinking of getting a chip for it and installing it but I heard b/c the system is older and such that the lazer won't handle burnt cd-r/cdrw/dvd-r, etc etc.
Anyone know if this is true or if I should be worried about it?
The guy told me that there's a method that can be used to tweak it and strengthen the lazer by adjusting it or something.
Does anyone know how to do this? is this true? if so can someone link me to a resource so I can get on it before I get a chip.
Also one more thing, do I have to get a chip specifically for a v2 or will other's work like, v1, v3, etc
If anyone else has any comments on the V2, throw them at me, I want to hear about them on the system
Thanks everyone :)
I have modded my V2 with a DUO and it's been working fine for a month now. I just had to clean the laser to get it working in top form. You can't adjust the cog, however, because it auto-adjusts. As long as your laser hasn't been having trouble reading originals, it should work great with a mod.
Also, I specialize in V2 installs, so I can do it for you if you're willing. :D
i have a dms3 in my v2. i fawked up my laser trying to clean it so i had to buy a new one. It reads fine dvd-r n such now. I would probably suggest a newer one mang. Good luck.
Im actually considering on grabbing a Duo but I heard the lazer needs adjusting before install. I'll see what I can do. Thx for the offer toma, but im going to install the chip on my own :)
Oh btw, for ur duo, is there a special way to get it working , like holding the reset button 5 seconds or something like that?
For PS2 games you have to eject the tray and then press reset to get them to boot. For Playstation games and DVD movies you do have to hold the reset. The actual boot instructions are in their site if you wanted the full descriptions.
