All im trying to say is, some version 1-3 will read backups. But some dont!! And its only by luck if you get one that does. I have modded several v1-3's and not all are able to read backups. So what I did for customers was trade it in at gamestop and paid the difference on a newer model.
First thing you should try before even modding a V2 is, see if it will read a backup movie. And that will save you alot of time, cuz some v1-3's wont even read the movie backups. If it cant read the movie then its not going to read the backup games.
Also, you could try replacing the laser and that may help.
I wasnt trying to be a smart ass in my first post! But I have been down that road your going down more than once, and at times I just replace them with newer models. And other times I got them running.
But you have to ask yourself! How long will it last after modding this thing???????????
I just mod my PS2 with duo2 and has the same problem as you described. It works for original ps2 nothing else. My PS2 is version 2 and maybe I'm not a lucky one as Samino said. I think there is a problem with version 2 it won't read the backup media. What ps2 version do you have Fo0shizn1x. If you get it's working i'm curious how you solve your problem so I can fix my too.
I've got 2 version 1's here both with Crystal chips and they boot everything every single time, lasers have not been replaced.
In my limited experience, duo2se's aren't the best chips for version 1-3, I got plenty of rsod with the same consoles when the duo2se's were in them, roughly a 40% successful boot rate.
