V2 disassembly help –
09-07-2003,07:27 AM
I cannot seperate the two boards inside the ps2 v2. i have removed all the screws but the board attached to the underside of the main board remains stubbornly attached. i need to remove it as the magic 3.6 i purchased needs to get to the chips that are covered by it. it looks like there is a dirty yellow clip centered between the two boards but i cannot seem to get it apart. that clip seems to be the only thing holding ithem together.
please unlock the mysteries of the machine.
please advise.
if i don't hear back soon i will throw it against the wall ;-)

you need to desolder the 2 boards from eash other, the 4 power pins are solder that is why you cannot get them apart

the motherboard and daughter board are connected by 4 pins. You need to desolder the 4 pins from the daugter side ( power supply )

also dont even think about soldering those big wires the magic 3.6 come with on the cd/dvd controller legs.. you need 30 gauage kyner wire for that.. if you cant do it. STOP because you will ruin your ps2. Send it to a pro

30 would be a bit large for any station older than a V4...
by the sounds of it I am glad we never got anything prior to the V3 in Oz - the fact that you have to desolder to pull apart is not welcoming - reminds me of the 7502 in the PSX days
not that that was hard but still!
