I had no clue this place existed. I could not find a decent PS2 forum last week when i really needed help picking a chip and installing it.

I ordered a Duo3 chip from www.mod-chip.com and got it last week. I went with the Duo3 because i have the Duox2 in my xbox and it has worked very well.

First i'd like to know if I made the right dicision? how is this chip? I don't really need gob full of features, i just wanna be able to play my back ups.

Well the the install went flawless, first boot was a successful boot. never soldered more than 4 wires befores so this was a tough one for me but I did it anyways .

I have a V13 ps2, the Duo3 came with a Neofix XIV and I installed that too. my question, well, concern is that I heard that the laser problem was fixed in the V13 and you don't need a fix to over ride Sony's fix... did I scew up by installing the fix? should I take it off? or is it ok to both have the Neofix and the sonyfix thats already on V13?
i'm not gonna kill my laser am i?

    Thanks in advance.

v13 doesn't need any additional fix, but like all other sony products, ps2 is frigile; laser will die eventually whether it was modded or not

afaik, neofix is a diode fix which limits the current flow to the laser hoping that would save the laser from frying itself; however, that solution was proved to be ineffective...might help little when dvd drive controller crashes

if playing backups is the only thing you wish, duo3 would do the job for you

    Anyone?

I just don't wanna end up burning my laser. I havn't even played the PS2 yet because im waiting on a reply.

Should keep the Neofix on my V13? take it off? what is the best option?

I would take it out. Has more potential to do bad than good, I have yet to see a v13 burn out a laser.

agree. Remove it.. Its a superbad fix in first place, and its not needed either.

It's not a bad fix. It's a pic fix. Better than summ0ne's fix. Leave it on. Removing it might damage the resistors if you don't know how to remove it properly.

You spoke too late sir. I removed it and the CD wouldn't spin AT ALL. then I put some solder on the resistors and the CD spins, but NOTHING IS PLAYING .

    I think I killed my PS2.

Took out the modchip and installed it in my brothers V14B and it's working.

I did need a paper weight, I guess now I got one.

Yeah happened to me while back.

If you remove the fix you need like 3 irons to remove the resistors properly or some soldering wick. Otherwise, you will rip the resistor's solder contact and burn your laser. Smell your laser, it's probably burnt.

I can try to fix it for you if you like. $30 + parts.

Well, it probably IS burnt. If I smell it, i'm only gonna feel worse.

Same think happened to my friend. Here's what he did, it's shady and i don't have the balls to do it.

He bought a PS2 from walmart. SOMEHOW he took off the warranty sticker without it ever saying void on it. (when i peeled mine off, it said VOID all over it). He then changed the boards and returned it. lol. It's so shady but he was able to return it.
Now I dont have the $ to buy a PS2 nor the guts to pull something off like this.
