v12.... ugh –
I tried to put a Matrix Infinity in my v12 (it was a yellow dot), before I got the firmware upgrade. The system gave me all black video, so I took the chip out, and now the system boots up but whenever I try to read a game (CD-R DVD-R real CD , real DVD) it says NO DATA. Right when I click on the disc it says no data, so I dont think the discs are spinning.
I took a capacitor off near the top (X point on D M S 4, SX on MI) The capacitor is located right where those wires would connect to. I heard that this cap is not important and is not the cause of hte problem.
I measured focus coils with a multimeter at 200k ohms:
Focus : 37.8
Tracking : 38.0
I dont know what the problem could be. Can anyone help?
200k ohms?? You need to test them again with the meter set to 20 ohms.
The multimeter I have (radio shack digital) only does 200 ohm, 2k, 20k, 200k, 2m. 200k and 2m are the only ones that are giving me a reading.
Are there any specific fuses I should be looking for? and if so, how do I test if a fuse is blown. Thanks.
Nobody knows what to check for in a v12 if the drive is not spinning, not even to check what the media is, and always says NO DATA when I put any disc in, no matter what it is.
set it to 200ohm - check all the fuses - the meter should read 0 ohms or very close to it (1 or 2 ohms - depending on the resistance of your multimeter cables)
You need to connect the DVD-Drive before measuring, otherwise you'll measure a circuit on board, i think then you'll get a better result!!

could be your meter is stuffed. try reading a resistor on the board and see if the meter reads the correct value. A resistor with 220 on it should read 22 ohms on your meter with it set to the 200 scale. A value of 0.0 means is a short!!
That could be it, the meter may be bad. I got the cheapest digital one that radio shack had. It isnt giving me any readings at all...
