    Hi!
i have a v12 modded with a mi chip and summone fix and i seem have some kind of error or something like that with it since a few days, basically all of a sudden it stops reading dvds and makes clicking noises instead of spinning up, cds seem to work fine and the dvds seem to boot up if i put diagnosis mode on in the options (altough way slower then normal), i then open it up and look for the error ,well the first time i thought the laser would be blown ,but i cant find anything everything seems to work fine and it works again when i put it together it boots up every dvd i put in, i had this happen abaut 4 times now and every time it works again perfectly for a few days then it starts to make this clicking noises again, and then i open it up again ,look for an error, dont find anything, close it and it works again, well you get the idea, this is driving me crazy now, does someone know what could possible cause something like that?

could be two things I know of....

slow clicking... tick tick tick... usually is the laser trying to focus on the disc... that sound is the lens moving to the boundery of its coil....

a grinding set of clicks... tit tit tit tit tit... the laser's sled (or slide as some call it) is not lining up with the worm gear... this will try to push the sled in towards the spindle and beyond it's track... forcing the gears to skip as it is...

I've noticed that if you open an older machine up and mess with the sled.. it will work for a while again... then start acting up.... although in my experience only a few times loading games before f'ing up again.

I'm not sure what can be done about it... If you can get replacement parts then you might be golden

well i would replace them, but since it works perfectly again (i tried to get it to fail again but it wont ) i think i wait a little more i dont think that there is something really broken with it otherwise it wouldnt work that long again, i noticed the screws that hold the wormgear where a little loose the last time i opened it, so i tried to tighten them, but im not sure if that is the cause of the problem since i cant reproduce the error again.
