V12 PS2 and M-chip (? late failure)
V12 PS2 and M-chip (? late failure) –

HI all,
Just wanting some advice for those who may have encountered this problem before.
I got a V12 PS2 (Slim) from Malaysia about 6 months ago and it had a M-CHip 7 (GP-688L) installed. Looked like a very professional installation looking at the wiring. It also has the laser protection mod.

Anyways, all was good - everything worked perfectly (backups, originals, movies).
I hadn't used it for the last 2 months and just tried it out last week.
The modchip should be active on bootup. Now all I get is a black screen when I try to boot up anything. If I tap the reset 3 times it boots up and will play region-free DVD movies without any problems. However, it will not play region 4 dvds and says to insert a PS2 disc when I put a backup or original PS2 game in.
The laser looks blue (not brown) and since it is playing DVD movies I assume it isn't the laser.
Could the modchip EEPROM have been erased ??
The wiring looks good though I don't have a multi-meter to check resistance etc.
It is almost as if the chip has been turned off permanently.
Any ideas anyone ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, are the any good PS2 modders in Melbourne, Australia that would hesitate to have a peek.
Cheers
Andrei

I would say the modchip is bad or a wire popped off.

Thanks for the info. WHat I also noticed when I opened it up was the the power (VCC) wire is the same diameter as the rest of the wires. I thought is should be of a higher guage.
