    Hi,

Please can anyone help me. I have a pstwo v12 here that has been fitted with a matrix infinity 1.39 and a neofix ii pcb also installed to protect something to do with the laser unit. Not really sure what its suppose to do really...

Anyway i have been happily using my pstwo without any problems, until the other day when i went to use it and basically its don;t sound like the disc is spinning.

It just sits on the browser screen as if you had just turned it on and there was no disc in the try.

any ideas where i should start looking into gettting this fixed... no really sure of how to do about this...

    Thanks alot

Sounds like something blew, have a look at your laser and see if it looks clear or milky, should be clear.
That neo fix II is basically useless, diodes on the board don't do much to protect your laser, your installer should have used resistors on the tracking and focus coils....depending on how long ago it was chipped of course, diodes were used before the resistors came into being as a fix.
If you can get the lid off, hold down the 2 switches that detect whether the top is on and the flip lid is closed, one is at the back and the other is on top of the power switch. Hold them both down and turn on the PS2, u should see a red light emit from the laser, checking to see if there's a disc loaded.
If there's no light, then your laser is likely fried, it can't detect a disc and therefore won't spin up.
    Hope this helps.

    GTZ,

good news i have just managed to get it the pstwo back and do the test as described above and the red light in the laser eluminates and the laser eye moves up and down trying to focus...

also i have noticed that the disc tries to spin then stops and keps on doing this...

can you suggest what it may be, would it be worth removing the neofix II and adding the resister fix just to protect it whilst i check that the neofix has not blown..

    what do you think m8??

    Thanks alot

I suggest going to you're installer to see if he can fix the issue you have plus get him to remove the Neo Fix II and add the summ0ne fix (resistor fix). You'll be alot safer playing backups without the laser dieing in the long run with a resistor fix.

I'd probably remove the neofix and try the PS2 before installing the summOne resistor fix, just to see if the drive spins up. If it spins, install the summOne resistor fix. And it's 2 resistors, not 3, unless he's made another change that I'm not aware of.

I would have been surprised if removing the Neofix had helped anything. Many already said (proven) that the Neofix (and anything like that) is not worth anything, but seems some guys still do not listen to them. Do the Summ0ne fix, put in the new laser, and see if that works or not. If you're lucky the board is still fine, otherwise you have to spend some time on repairing the board aswell.

    regards, Stephen
