v12 lasers, lens or whole optical block change??

hi, another egg sucking question from me sorry

i have a few v12's all with shagged lasers (i think) everywhere i look for replacements they have either the lens replacements or the full optical block replacements??

how do i tell what i need to replace as i'd rather not but the whole optical block unless i need to.

i know how to check and adjust the resistance on other versions, is it just a case of checking the pots?

does the lens go sometimes, and the whole thing other times??
