I'm going to do an install on a slim v12. I've never taken a slim one apart. I understand how to remove the top cover. Then remove the four screws for laser sled. Unplug reset switch and remove screw by mem card reader. Pry up laser sled and removed hidden screw.

Now this is where I am confused. The way I understand it is that I need to flip over the whole thing while holding the laser sled in place. Then unscrew the bottom plate.

Once I flip it isn't the laser going to be touching the table?

And once the cover is removed will the board come free or do I just do the work like it is?

After you take out the screw by the mem card reader remove the whole bottom case away from the rest. Then remove the laser block. After that it's straight forward. CHEERS

Thats what I normally do, just be careful with the little brown clips as they can break easy.

If you are careful, you can leave the laser assembly attached. I usually move the laser head as far away from the spindle motor as possible. There's a plastic cover that will keep the eye from touching anything (fingers, desk, etc). Just hold the worm screw while you flip it, it will keep the assembly in place. I've done this at least 100 times no and never had a unit come out of it with a damaged laser.

    That dis-assembly guide is slick...

It mentions that unplugging the CMOS battery might not be a good idea.

    Any thoughts on that

I posted the question about step #22, but seem like it's NOT matter at all, if the battery plug
