  1. #1 Utility Disc? Eh?
    fooniman Guest
I Have A Question, Why Does The Utility Disc (When You Boot With Chip, Burned Copy) Why Does It Bring A Black Screen After Showing PS2 Logo? Is It Mod Protection? Is There Any Way To Crack It? If Anyone Wants To Think Of It, Maybe We Could Crack it In Some Way, It May Contain A Protection Which We Could Crack/Patch...
Well, Is There Anyway To Get It To Load WITHOUT Opening My PS2? I Have A Blue Chip...

it's some sort of Sony Proprietary system, which may or may not be readable. It might just do another check on the file system before loading the contents of the disc. It will not boot, even an original, in a system with a modchip. Check Sniper's post regarding his problems with the XO chip.

Which BTW, why do you need to boot a utility disc? With your model, there's no updates needed for it. The remote drivers are already installed with it.

What version of the drivers are you trying to load? By default, you should have the v2.10 in there, which should be fine to use the DVD Region X or AR2V2 with that to do multi-region.

The DVD drivers were hard coded to the BIOS, instead of the Mem card as of the JAP 18000 models, and then subsequent upgrades were stored on the mem card. They're up to v2.13 the last time I checked.

Just load the DVD Region X or AR2V2 and you should be fine.

A tip that worked for my ethernet adaptor utility disc. Boot your PS2 in PSX mode, and then load the utility disc from the browser. It worked for me.

Ok, just a note regarding this. You can NEVER downgrade your DVD drivers. This is a given. Sony has protected this since the JAP 15000 models. Only upgrades.

Even if you use a mem card hacker to get the older drivers, the Magicgate Encryption is your next problem. I haven't seen once where copied DVD drivers will work.

Now...that being said....the only way you can get it to work is to either:
    (A) find the upgrade codes for the DVD Region X, which are near impossible or contact Datel support directly about it.
    (B) Get a newer Action Replay 2 V2 with the DVD built in ( I think they're up to version 2.11 now)
    (C) Get a multi-region chip installed.

And Fat_Mike, he may be able to boot it, but the drivers will not load from a burned copy of the disc. It'll hang when trying to install.

Oh, you must be right, I have never tested that with a backup.
