Can I use a newer version of laser on a V4? Like V5 laser or V6-V10 ? I have 2 busted laser from V4 already and seems lots of people are saying that V4 has weaker ones, so just wondering if anyone has tried this before?

The V1-V4 and V5-V6 lasers are basically the same (exeption goes to the Sanyo lasers) electronically wise.
I know you can fit V5/V6 lasers on V4 units without big issues.
Go for it because it sucks now to find older lasers to repair V1-V3 PS2s. Worse yet, V5/V6 lasers won't fit on V1-V3 units due to mechanical diferences. So it's wise to keep these older lasers for very old PS2 units...

I saw a post somewhere about successfully installed a V7 laser on a V4, does that sound right?

In general, are lasers in later version of ps2 really better than older ones?

Yeah, I've put a v7 laser on a v4. Just gotta adjust the white gear in the cd/dvd drive case. There's a article on adjusting the laser at tech tv's site, should still be in the x-play archive's. My opinion is the newer lasers are built better, seems they last longer then the motherboards do, atleast that's how it works for me.

Cool, I guess I'll replace it with a newer model then. Thanks for the confirmation. By the way, where to get the new laser with cheaper price?

Basically u can put new laser (KHS-400C only) on any old ps2. from v0 (1xxxx), v1-v4. I did that many times on my customer's ps2 in the past 2 years.

Hi Sioivo, which version of PS2 is the KHS-400C original equipped? I tried to buy from foundmy.com but they don't show the model number on it.

I thought saving 15% on my car insurance was good but having my ps2 modded by N£TM£ÇH was way better!
