have had a magic 3.1 installed in a us v5 for about a year now. now it no longer plays any originals or backups. ps1, ps2, music, dvd movies nothing. the unit boots to browser and thats it. took off the dvd cover and noticed that the disk spins when trying to load a ps2 original or backup but when i try to load a ps1 original or backup or a music cd the disk will on;y spin about an 8th of a turn then stop for a few seconds then try to spin again only to move about another 8th of a turn. the whole time the ps2 is still at the browser screen. any ideas?? thanks

    Hi:

The most probably case is that your laser eye has died.

I notice that because you say its spin a little, then another little, and then it stop.

Thats because its not focusing your Disc at all. Your ps2 believe that is no disk inside!!

Try cleaning your laser eye. If nothing happens then try adjusting the azimut and white cog.

If nothing happens try adjusting the pods (be very careful with pods)

If nothing happens, begin to worry about it too much. Try to get a working v5 entire System Laser, I mean the Box entirely and swap it in your console.

If your console begins working, now you know your laser eye has completely died.

If it doesnt, worry about your BA Chip, swap it with a working one, or better, try your lense in another v5 ps2.

If your lense works, try replacing BA chip.

If BA chip replacing solved your problem, then you have finished your reparation, if doesnt, better to buy a new v10 ps2 and mod it with Messiah2, Matrix or DMS3

    Good Luck!

I am having the exact same problem -- v5 PS2 with a Magic 3 in it for just a little over a year. Mine boots, plays games for a little while, then starts loading very slowly and eventually hangs. I've tried cleaning and the internal adjustments to no avail. I'm thinking about purchasing a new laser & I'm curious to see how your repair goes....
