From STANDBY press and hold RESET until the blue light comes on. Let go and PS1 and DVD Movies will boot if everything else is OK.

Try this, patch your Jap PSX game with a territory patch and set it to US territory and test it out it should work.
PS2 NTSC U/C v9 w/DMS3v9 Firmware v2.2
PS3 NTSC JP 20GB HDD
PSP NTSC JP

I have the same problem as the above.
But having followed charlie_ps2 suggestion, the DVD movie works but Original & Back Up PSX1 games still wont load.
It kept going to the Red cloud "insert ps2 format disc" message
why is this ?

magic v7 boot problem –

We regret to inform that there is a problem with the recent supply of magic2 modchips underlined V7. We have a open heart and open mind about our product and we cannot allow this issue to go ignored or unnoticed. Our friends and retailers have to be honest/fair to report the error aswell. www.modchip.ca was the first to report that PS1 backups did not work, second report came from www.sperry.com.tw
we already pass this to many suppliers that have ordered from us to send back to us for reprograming. to valued costumers, please contact the place where you purchased from, and arrange everything necesarry about this issue, consider also to the shiping cost. Many users have added a small neo2 alongside their magic2 to resolve this issue. Although this does work, we do not endorse this. Use this process at your own risk.
1. we will reprogram the Modchip( only v7 underline), the supplier send to us their stock and then we reprogramed
2. if customer wishes to change there V7 underlined mod, then send it to the place you purchased it, Make sure your retailer will be participating in the recall first! discuss the costs of shipping with the place purchased from.
Dont really know if the new red version magic 2 had a fixed for that but they claim they did.
(dont go by what they said and do research on it befored buying the red version)

The duff V7's were the brown underlined ones, made good in the RED Magic 2s.

"Anyway, that means my 390001 + Magic2 V7 can play
"ALL PS2 games and DVD Region 1" but NO PSX1 whatsoever.
Is that it ? "
hum.... you have the system there .. why not test it ???
like charlie have said "From STANDBY press and hold RESET until the blue light comes on. Let go and PS1 and DVD Movies will boot if everything else is OK. "

[PS1 and DVD Movies will boot if everything else is OK. " [/B]
Dude,
that is not happening, only DVD boots, But Not PSX1 regardless what region, original OR back up
Its no longer an issue for me now, I just thought I never need to play PSX1 on a PS2 machine anyway. LOL
Thanks to everyone though.
