Two v7 problems
Well, I took it upon myself to mod a v7 for a friend of mine with a matrix infinity....
I soldered the past connection and mostly pieced it back together, except for putting it back in the black plastic ps2 case. Unfortunately for me, I powered the unit while it was sitting on a metal surface (outside of its plastic case).
Upon trying to power the unit, I saw a little green spark down by the power source board. The tv flicked once but the ps2 didn't power up after that.
I am pretty sure that I fried that green power source board. I temporarily swapped it out with a working one and got the unit to power up correctly. Where is the best place to get PS2 parts, and what will this board cost me? Do i have to make sure I get a v7 one?
While the unit was powered up properly, the PS2 did not read original or backup discs. I get the pink/red 'please insert disc' after it tries to read whatever i've put in there. I'm not sure if its a mod chip install problem... and I probably won't be able to check for sure until I get a power source board to activate the unit+troubleshoot... but offhand, has anyone ever come across this prob with v7 MI?
Have no experience with the powersupply, but you could check the fuse(s) to see if it's blown. For a new/used one you could check the shopping section here or at Rich's PS2 Parts
