Troubleshooting v12 and Magic S+ –
Hi everybody. I've been reading a lot but still have a few questions if anyone is willing to try and help. Thanks in advance.
Background: New v12 and Magic S+. Installed it with summ0ne's fix and it looks fine, no bridges, no shorts as far as I can tell. PS2 starts to a black screen and it looks like the disc is spinning pretty quickly. This happens with backup ps2 games and original psx games. If I go in and remove the VCC wire from the install, PS2 boots the same original psx game just fine. Here are my questions:
1) Does a ps2 (with a disabled mod) working mean that everything else with the console is in good order? Could a ps2 suffer blown fuses, shorts, or a damaged laser and still operate like it should?
2) I know that the R wire is susceptible to interference and I have it a good distance away from other wires but I was wondering if other wires display similar interference effects and should be routed independently. Except for the R wire, the other BIOS wires are pretty bundled together. Does this black screen sound like an R wire problem? Is there something specific to look for with regard to a black screen?
3) Is there a systematic way to check the chip's integrity? I seem to remember something to the effect that the SCEX wire is needed for psx games. Is there a way I can partially mod the console such that it will be able to boot psx games, or is it an all 19 wires or nothing kind of thing? If so, which wires would it require?
